The Opportunity:

As the Advising Director, you will be responsible for, but not limited to, providing academic advising, overseeing administrative operations, offering leadership, and managing staff. This role includes supervising Academic Advisors I, II, and III.


For the purpose of Workday, you will formally report to WSUV’s Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Annual reviews and specific duties will be decided in a collaboration between the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and the Executive Director of University Advising. 


Your responsibilities will include leading and mentoring a team of academic advisors; communicating and collaborating with the campus Registrar; on-boarding new advisors; leading advising assessment activities; preparing and presenting workshops for advisors; coordinating the reinstatement process; compiling data for surveys and reports; planning work allocations for advisors; developing advising-related policies and procedures; serving on committees representing advising; developing and managing an operational budget for advising; collaborating with campus and university leadership; and participating in professional organizations.

 
Furthermore you are responsible for supervising new and transfer student orientations; advising up to 75 students, and for working collaboratively with faculty and staff to build student-centered programs and initiatives that improve student success and retention.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. Overtime eligibility will be determined based on final salary placement.


Monthly Salary: $5,337.47 - $7,465 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to the functional managerial area which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree in a relevant field may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of advising and counseling techniques, with the ability to build trust and provide safe, supportive opportunities for students, from varied backgrounds, including, but not limited to, underrepresented, first generation, and/or high needs, to identify and pursue paths to graduation that support their educational goals and post-graduation plans.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and respectfully interact with students, faculty, and staff of diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds, and an understanding of the barriers student populations may face in higher education.
