SUMMARY:
Marathon Petroleum Company is seeking an Advanced ESS Analyst to join our high-performing health and safety team. This is a unique opportunity to lead strategic initiatives that shape the future of our safety and quality programs.
As part of the Transportation and Rail (T&R) Health and Safety group, you’ll play a key role in supporting our Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS), local self-auditing programs, and help manage strategic planning. Additionally, safe driving is the core of our business within the Transportation and Rail group this role will also manage our Lytx DriveCam program.
The preferred location for this role is Southern California; however other MPC locations may be considered.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Audit Program Management: The ESS Analyst and Audit Coordinator oversee collaborative and self-audit programs, including developing audit plans, writing protocols, training auditors, supporting execution, and reporting findings to management. They also coordinate with environmental SMEs and manage security assessments and operational deep dives.
DOT Compliance Oversight: Works with the environmental safety and security compliance team to ensure proper data access, invoice approvals, and incident reporting related to DOT compliance, ensuring accurate reporting and data integration into Power BI dashboards. Coordination with fleet leaders and incident coordinators is essential.
Safe Driving Program: The ESS Analyst supports the DriveCam program by managing user roles, vehicle assignments, data reporting, and coordinating with various department leaders. Annual reviews and monthly calls with program representatives are conducted to support strategic goals.
Recommendations Process: The ESS Analyst owns the recommendations process, providing quarterly reporting to leadership, maintaining BI dashboards, assisting with change requests, and ensuring documentation compliance.
Incident Reporting and Management: Works closely with the T&R Incident Coordinator and acts as backup Incident Coordinator, managing incident reports, ensuring accuracy, following up on tasks, and facilitating weekly calls when needed.
Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS): Works with the Knowledge Management Performance Improvement (KMPI) group to coordinate OEMS activities, including onboarding owners, running risk and maturity assessments, supporting management reviews, and developing a T&R-specific OEMS Power BI report. The ESS Analyst serves as SME for various OEMS elements.
Strategic Planning Coordination: Works closely with the KMPI team and facilitates annual strategic goal development with H&S managers, based on continuous improvement, trends, and priorities, providing technical assistance and updates to leadership.
Power BI and Dataflows Management: ESS Analysts manage Power BI reports requiring manual updates, oversee the T&R HES Data workspace, coordinate dataflows from Intelex, and facilitate weekly metric verification calls to support leadership reporting. If the successful candidate does not have Power BI experience they will be expected to take internal classes to become proficient.
Records Coordination: KMPI manages records compliance, promoting SharePoint over Teams for document storage, ensuring proper record linkage to Intelex or Document Warehouse, and participating in quarterly coordinator calls. The ESS Analyst will work closely with this team to ensure alignment.
Management of Change (MOC): The ESS Analyst will assist in the continued development and management of the MOC process and data flows.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field is required.
Minimum of 4 years of related work experience required, 7 or more years preferred.
Health and safety systems management experience, such as DriveCam and Intelex is preferred.
Prior management system and/or auditing experience is preferred.
Valid driver’s license required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The worker is required to have visual acuity and be capable of operating and viewing computers and other electronic devices for extended periods of time.

The environment is a fast-paced, deadline-oriented office environment. There will be access to confidential and sensitive information, requiring ongoing discretion and secure information management in paper and electronic form.
