The Opportunity:

As part of a collaborative advising team within the Carson Center for Student Success at the Carson College of Business (CCB), this position provides holistic, student-centered advising to undergraduate business students. The advisor supports students’ academic, personal, and professional development through proactive engagement, individualized academic planning, and goal setting. They guide students in making informed decisions about their educational paths, career and career aspirations, aligned with CCB’s commitment to producing career-ready graduates equipped with global and ethical perspectives.
 

Advisors in the Carson College serve as key contributors to student retention, progression, degree completion, and career attainment. Through regular one-on-one meetings, workshop, and outreach efforts, the advisor monitors academic progress, identifies potential challenges and implements timely interventions. They help students navigate University policies, degree requirements, and college-specific expectations, while also helping students develop career goals, action plans, and connecting them with high-impact learning experiences such as internships, study abroad programs, industry networking events, student organizations and scholarship opportunities, all essential components of the CCB’s emphasis on experiential and applied learning.
 

In addition to direct student support, the advisor plays an integral role supporting the administrative functions of holistic advising. This includes supporting new student orientation, registration, academic record accuracy, and graduation clearance. The advisor collaborates closely with faculty, department chairs, career services and other university offices to ensure seamless transition between academic departments, campus and institutional resources.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.


Monthly Salary: $4,100

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience working with students in an educational setting or related experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

  • Experience with academic/career advising, and experience applying academic rules and regulations.

  • Work experience using student records systems (i.e. PeopleSoft, Banner).

  • Work experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, Zoom.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated ability to remain professional, courteous, and interact effectively with people in a positive manner that engenders confidence and trust.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work weekends and after regular business hours.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field.

  • Working knowledge of learning styles, freshman year experience, retention strategies, academic success strategies, and career development.

  • Strong public speaking skills and the ability to develop and deliver engaging and informative presentations to students.

  • Past work experience in academic and career advising at the post-secondary level.
