About the Role
The Operating Room LPN functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) to assist in providing direct and indirect care to surgical patients. The LPN plays a key role in ensuring patient safety, supporting surgeons and nursing staff, and maintaining the smooth flow of surgical procedures.
This position requires excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to teamwork in a fast-paced and rewarding surgical environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support the perioperative team in preparing and maintaining a sterile environment in the operating room
Assist with patient care activities under the supervision of an RN or LIP
Perform technical and clinical tasks such as medication administration, patient monitoring, and documentation of care
Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and surgical staff to ensure coordinated care
Provide education and support to patients and families regarding procedures and recovery expectations
Adhere to infection control and safety standards to ensure optimal patient outcomes
Serve as a patient advocate and uphold ethical and legal nursing standards
Qualifications
Current LPN License in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or eligible) – Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire
Previous experience in an operating room or acute care setting preferred
Strong teamwork, organization, and communication skills
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
