Job Description

The Data and Modeling Applications team supports Biologics Process Development by leveraging advanced data analytics, machine learning, and mechanistic modeling to manage, analyze, and simulate complex datasets. By integrating cutting-edge computational tools, process informatics, and predictive modeling, we collaborate closely with scientists and engineers to optimize workflows, uncover actionable insights, and enhance decision-making.

Our expertise in advanced data systems and AI-driven approaches drives innovation, accelerates biologics development, and ensures the delivery of high-quality biologic products to patients.

The Data Engineer Intern will play a key role in supporting the Digitalization Initiatives Project within the Biologics Process Development (BPD) team. This internship provides a unique opportunity to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Research and Development (R&D) operations by implementing advanced digital solutions. The BPD team is dedicated to fostering innovation, improving data accessibility, and streamlining workflows across diverse projects.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and optimize data pipelines, enabling seamless integration and real-time accessibility of critical research datasets. Your contributions will help ensure workflows are efficient, data is reliable, and project outcomes align with broader organizational objectives.

How You Will Contribute:

Duties will include the following, under the manager’s supervision:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and optimize data pipelines that support real-time data integration and analysis.

  • Work with stakeholders to translate data requirements into technical specifications and workflows aligned with project goals.

  • Support workflow optimization by enhancing data management and analysis processes, contributing to improved accuracy and decision-making.

  • Ensure data-related processes comply with organizational standards, regulations, and best practices.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data processes, pipelines, and workflows, providing stakeholders with regular project updates.

Job Requirements:

  • This position will be Fully Onsite and require 4+ days per week in the Lexington office.

  • Must be currently pursuing a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Proficient in Python for data manipulation and analysis.

  • Strong experience with SQL for database management and querying.

  • Familiarity with AWS services (e.g., S3, Lambda, RDS).

  • Experience with Tableau for dashboards and visualizations.

  • Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS for interface integration.

  • Experience with FastAPI (or similar frameworks) for building APIs.

  • Familiarity with Big Data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Databricks).

  • Basic knowledge of machine learning principles and tools.

  • Experience with Apache Airflow or similar workflow orchestration tools.

  • At least 1 year of experience in data engineering, software engineering, data analysis, or related fields is preferred.

  • Highly reliable, strong team player, detail-oriented, and adaptable.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Internship Eligibility 

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship  

  • Must be currently enrolled in a degree program graduating December 2026 or later  

  • The internship program is 10-12 weeks depending on the two start dates (May 26th-August 14th or June 15th- August 21st)  

  • The intern must be able to commit to one of these time frames   

  • Able to work full time 40 hours a week during internship dates   

  • Takeda does not provide a housing stipend or relocation support for the U.S Summer Internship Program

U.S. Hourly Wage Range:

$21.00 - $46.00

The estimated hourly range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered will depend on the candidate’s school year/level to be entered following completion of internship.  The actual hourly wage offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
