The ShinrAI Center for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is Takeda’s hub in R&D DD&T for advancing AI-driven solutions with trust ("Shin" = trust in Japanese) for transforming pharmaceutical R&D. We partner with Drug Discovery Units (GI, Oncology, Neuroscience, Rare Disease, etc.) to implement impactful AI/ML initiatives.
The AI Solution Development Intern will collaborate with industry-leading scientists and AI engineers, contributing to practical AI solution development, automation, and analytics projects that support pipeline programs. Interns will gain exposure to the responsible integration of AI/ML within drug discovery and development.
How You Will Contribute:
Duties may include the following, under the manager's supervision:
Support design, development, and validation of AI/ML models for R&D use cases (e.g., data analysis, predictive modeling, Generative AI implementation)
Assist with data preparation, cleaning, and feature engineering from multiple R&D sources
Help automate routine research processes using AI tools
Evaluate and document model performance
Present data to collaborators and stakeholders

Job Requirements:
Ph.D. candidates in computer science, electrical engineering, or similar related majors.
Experienced in Generative AI (LLM, SLM, etc.)
Skilled in Python and machine learning
Full-time commitment, requiring five days of on-site work at the Cambridge site
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a collaborative team member in an interdisciplinary environment
Comfortable exploring large scientific datasets and emerging AI technologies
Willingness to comply with all site-specific health, safety, and data privacy requirements
Internship Eligibility
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship
Must be currently enrolled in a degree program graduating December 2026 or later
The internship program is 10-12 weeks depending on the two start dates (May 26th-August 14th or June 15th- August 21st)
The intern must be able to commit to one of these time frames
Able to work full time 40 hours a week during internship dates
Takeda does not provide a housing stipend or relocation support for the U.S Summer Internship Program

$21.00 - $46.00
The estimated hourly range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered will depend on the candidate’s school year/level to be entered following completion of internship. The actual hourly wage offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
